Another MIDI tune from 2009 I'll share with you.  I wanted a horn section for this without having to pay hundreds of bucks for a brass program.  I fashioned some horn licks with Mixcraft.  Not "Kick Ass Brass", but not too bad either.

Lyrics:

Not  long ago
I was a sight, you know
Dressed right to kill
Living. Not dreaming
Laughing.  Not crying

Thought I was smart
Knew every line by heart
Turned on my greatest charms
But if I only knew then
what price I would pay today

Here in my lonely world
It's dark & cold and I'm feeling much to old
And the memories crawl out the wall to torture me
Only now do I realize how empty my days are without you

You stole my show
Put me on a path to grow
But I never quite grew up
Your incredible patience
proved the love that you had, but then
Soon you reached your fill
And I took for granted your love until
Woke up to find you no longer there
And I realized my foolishness cost me my greatest gift

Here in my lonely world
Dreamin bout the good life I once knew
What a sad excuse for the man I am
Only now do I realize how empty my days are without you

Here you let me go
With only memories of pride to show
Nothing but an empty shell of humanity
So much loss.  Nothing gained
Only hurt.  Not the same, so I
Barely exist in my lonely world and nothing makes much sense anymore
Just a hopeless case.  Now you know the score
Only now do I realize how empty my days are without you

That sounded pretty well put together. I wouldn't have thought about the quality of the midi if you hadn't of mentioned it at all.

This song is huge lyrically. You blew my doors off with this one. Great song construction, and the vocals are to die for. Well done John.

I really like your vocal style and vocal melodies. Another classic-sounding piece of songwriting. The piano chords work beautifully. My only slight niggle is that the bass needs to sound more 'organic' - it's a bit mechanical. But it doesn't take away the fact that this is a fantastic composition in the Chicago / Supertramp / Andrew Gold vein. Nice touches of brass too.

Great song John.  I didn't dislike the brass at all.  Your voice has great tone and the arrangement is superb.

The only (very minor) thing that I was a bit unsure about was the crash cymbal in the chorus.  A bit too prominent perhaps?  Having said that I'm not sure if you can adjust individual part volumes in whatever you are using - even if you were to agree with me.

I am of course absolutely nitpicking - it's a song of which to be proud and I will listen again>

I have just listened again and I really do like this.  I also thought I needed to listen to the lyrics - which I have to admit are (as a non-singer) usually the last part of a song on which I concentrate.

This is a goody.

Greeny, Chap & Jimmy;
Thanks so much, guys.  Chap, I probably could adjust that Crash cymbal.  I have to revisit the setup file.  That was a headphone mix.  Thanks for the "heads up".  ;)
