I'm back too and have had better time to really appreciate this one. It's really an amazing song Dave. Every part works well on their own, and put together they make one epic piece of music. And the way you effordlessly change from one part to the next is great. I love many of the small details in the arrangement too. Like the piano on the part that goes "And then one day my son is grown,..." and the rhythmchange and organ that comes at 1:21 ....

The lyrics are really great, with timeless elements  and elements from modern day life.

To come out 3 weeks later with a song like this that seems to resonate with you good folks, well that is amazing to me.  I wasn't sure right up to the end,  It felt like it could end up real cheezy, and I wasn't sure how this would be recieved.

I wish I had your patience Dave, it really pays off. This is  not cheezy in any way!

I strugled with how much to put in.  At one point I had much more lead guitar all over the place, during some sections, but I took it all out and only left the one guitar solo.  It felt like it was distracting from the words and I was feeling excited about how the lyrics shaped up.

I think that was a good choice. It turned out really great. I know by experience it's tempting to add guitar "all over the place", but with a song like this and with these lyrics I too think more guitar would have been a distraction.
