HELP! Card Space Issues

I deleted every MP3 and every song (including optimizing the current one I was working on), but my BR kept saying 'Card Full' before I got to the end of the MP3 export.

I've ended up initializing the card again (and losing my current song - grrrrrrrr), but I have no idea if this well help.

Any thoughts anyone? Is this a common issue? Or is my card already fried?

p.s. I've hooked it up to my pc and it's showing 122 MB of free space now...

Technology eh?!

Get a couple of 1G cards mate, cheap as chips these days.

I'm not sure what might have caused the problem, but you should be alright now that you've initialized the card. I assume this is the 128MB card that came with your Micro BR? The reason your computer says the card has only 122MB free is that the card's capacity is stated in decimal megabytes (1,000,000 bytes), but Windows reports the free space in binary megabytes (1,048,576 bytes). If you multiply 122 * 1,048,576, you get 127,926,272 bytes, which is pretty darn close to 128MB. The difference (73,728 bytes) is due to the folders and files of the new song which the BR creates as part of the initialization.

When you export from the BR, you must have enough free space on the card to hold the wave or MP3 file you're creating. With a 128MB card, you will seldom have enough space for it. Instead of exporting from the BR, you should use the BR Wave Converter program. This program will create a wave file on your computer's hard drive rather than on the BR's memory card, so it doesn't matter if the memory card is full. Also, the BR Wave Converter is faster and easier to use than the BR's export feature.

The next time you decide to initialize your memory card, make sure you back it up first. Then, after the initialization, you can restore the backup and continue working on your songs.

Yes, it's the original 128 MB card. I'd already exported 4 MP3's without any problem, so it was puzzling why this one blew the memory (note: it was under 4 mins long).

I think I might treat myself to a bigger card anyway, but thanks again (as always!) for the prompt and sound advice!
