Quote from: Gnasty on May 12, 2010, 08:11:31 PMNice Nelson! Are you sayingyou just learned piano while you`ve been away from here?..That`s amazing bro! Your runs and little fills were awesome. Sounds like you were gifted to play..Great song!!
I've started using the keyboard to add strings and synth sounds to a few of my songs but I want to be able to play a whole song and I figured instead of learning some old pop song I try to write one of my own. They idea being, once I get the basic progression down I'll probably play it 1,000 x while trying to write the songs. After a while I'm so caught up in writing the lyrics that I'm not thinking about my fingers, as much.

Thanks guys for your kind words. I'm working hard to better my songwriting.

Fantastic song, this is beautiful.  I love your lyrics and vocals.  The piano sounds really good, it really keeps the song moving along.  Really well done, I am liking this song.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

Well Nelson this is incredible. Your songwriting and vox
are good as they always have been. I always look forward to
hearing your new compositions!
But, what is a real mind-blower here, is your keyboard
skills....WOW! You're a natch.

I really, really liked that Nelson.  The piano definately adds another dimension to your music, and it naturally takes your songwriting in directions that you wouldn't necessarily take on a guitar.

Great stuff and thanks for sharing it.

Beautiful chords and piano-work. I got the 'let it Be' vibe too from the opening, but it takes it's own journey after that. I like the delicate little breakdown in the middle very much. Top quality songwriting and performance! The vocal fits like a glove too. Really enjoyed this one.

Great combo there Nelson, you sound a bit like a cheerful Tom Waits (if such a thing is possible!). The piano playing is great, very impressive if you are a newbie. Vox sound fantastic, it's a great song and the harmonies are fab. Love that organ in the latter part of the song.

The only minor thing I would tweak is to put a bit more sustain (pedal?) on the "held" chords and trills, I just wanted some of those to ring out a bit more as sometimes the piano on its own sounds a bit "dry". But that's nothing major.

Cheers,

Nigel

I got a long way to go on my piano playing. But writing song on the piano feels good. when i write songs using the guitar I usually record the progression on the Br-600 and loop it. But on the piano, once I come up  with the progression, instead of recording it, I just play it over and over as I write. Pretty soon I'm so into  the words and cadence, that I'm jumping around in the song not even thinking about my playing, just doing it. Of course as soon as I do start thinking about it, I screw up.

Well here is a remix of Bare Feet in the Street I'm trying to smooth it out a bit. Hope the strings aren't too much.
What cha think?
