Southern Progressive Rock!!? (Lynyrd Skynyrd by way of Alan Parsons)

In continuing with my procrastination today, I thought this might offer a little glimpse into some of our odder moments.

I am a dictator when it comes to only a few things.  One of them happens to be keyboard sounds. Unless you're playing prog (or fusion in rare instances), I should only hear a piano, Hammond, or occasional Rhodes.  I guess if you want to get funky, a Clavinet would be in short order.  That being said, keyboardist Ed dialed in a trippy pad, reminiscent of the title track of Alan Parsons' I Robot. I dialed in a Leslie sound, John the singer (John the Baptist's underachieving brother) dialed up some Darth Vadery-sounding patch in the Boss VE-20, and we were off to the races.

Eventually, we were noodling in D major, and I started the riff to "Needle and the Spoon" by Lynyrd Skynyrd (which I've posted previously...sorry).  When it was all over, I couldn't resist tagging on the end of it "The Vast Pretense," an experiment in Sony Acid that has manifested itself several times on this site.

If nothing else, this made my ribs hurt several times from laughing heartily. This is especially true every time I listen to the ending.

Recorded live (except for the end tag) on a BR-1600.

I offer to you Southern Progressive Rock: Volume I

Weirdness.
