Yep, no doubt about it, that is an 80's style metal track  - some shades (lighter shades) of Dio era Sabbath in there for me.  Thanks for sharing that little trip down memory lane, I'm wondering if you guys went all the way and did the the whole unfeasibly tight pants/big hair thing while recording this??

;D  Even though I'm nearly 52, I still have a lot of curly hair.  Unfortunately it's pretty much grey now.  As for the unfeasibly tight trousers, well, it is only really around the waist!  And when I say "waist" I really mean that area under my stomach where my waist used to be.

I still throw a mean pose now and then.

Break out the spandex & hair laquer & FMWABP !!! This song is F**kin' Awesome!! There's lot's of great talent and songwriting on this site & in my opinion it can't get any better than this ! Breath taking song. It's like Rush v Europe v Graham Bonnet.... Everything that was classy about that late 70's/80's era. The playing is 2nd to none. Honestly I'm gobsmacked ! And when I read that the drums were programmed????? No way !!!! God, that's the most realistic sounding bit of drum programming I think I've ever heard... I take my hat off to that gentleman. Truly mindblowin' lead guitar too. Tasteful solo. This is a person who knows their trade. Very tasty use of wangbar. I reckon a Charvel/Kramer or Jackson ;D. Seriously, this should be on PlanetRock. Everything about it is Pure Class. The vox/keyboards/guitars...everything !!! Have Classic Rock been sent a copy of your CD for review? You can't get any more ClassicRockier than this !!!! 10 red boxes ;D

Thanks very much for the kind comments everybody.  It really has been a great project.  We realy only intended to re-record 2 or perhaps 3 of our old songs but, as Nicky says, we are approaching a full album's worth of music.  Ten songs plus a classical-style orchestral medley of the songs that I'm working on now - assuming that Nicky and Mark allow it to be included since they haven't heard it yet.  (Orchestral medley - now that really is self indulgent prog nonsense if ever such a thing existed!)

Any way - you're right BM - Mark's drum programming is awe-inspiring as far as I'm concerned.  He went to extreme trouble to try to replicate what our "real" drummer did back then - all from a few distorted tapes that survived.  What is even more incredible is that he programmed the drums using the drum machine built into his old 8-track zoom recorder before recording the completed track into his VS2400.  So we're not talking state-of-the-art drum machines here.

As you say - he's no mean guitar player.  ( A custom shop strat, by the way, made for Jennifer Batten - of Michael Jackson fame).

When the album is complete we will have to start to think about where to send it.  Classic Rock will probably get one - another ash-tray for the boys.....
