Vocal Recording Trick

Rata-tat-tat

Hey folks just wanted to share a little technique that might save you some time. I tried this on my last post "The Apology" and it really brougth the vocals out.... Maybe a little too much on that particular track. Prior to this I had always double tracked (Record one vocal trk and then another singing in the same voice.) This works great in some cases; However, on some songs it just doesn't sound right. The idea... IMO... is to get a natural chorus effect without processing the vocal.

Here's what I did:

1. Record your vocal track.
2. Upload the track to your computer and open with Audacity or similar editing program.
3. Copy the track so you now have 2 identical tracks on your time line.
4. Pan 1 trk LT and 1 trk RT.
5. Move one of the Tracks slightly forward on the timeline... I did it by ear so I couldn't tell you the exact time... I would guess 3 or 4 Milliseconds. Too much and the track becomes very muuddled. Too little and you don't get the Chorus effect you desire.

You could probably Do this on the MBR... I find it easier to edit with a computer. Hope this helps.

In case  you haven't heard it yet...
