I wouldn't worry too much about the vocals being loud.  I think the prominence in the mix adds to the heartfelt emotion.  You're a brave man to use the "wicked witch of the west" line.  Not sure how you got away with that.... ;D

Wow, Tod - You put a really great tune together here! It does have a cool 80's synthpop vibe. I think the vox sound great - I agree that the vocal prominence works very well here.
