Quote from: Nick / odh on October 07, 2010, 05:49:47 AMI love your version of the song, great cover.  Singing and guitar are all spot on.  This kind of cover is what my music is all about.  I love that there's a kindred spirit somewhere that loves this song too.

Thanks Nick, appreciate the bump and your comments. Wire were a massive influence on me, I went through punk from the early days (being 19 years old in 76!) and although I loved the energy of punk, I felt that most of the bands pretty quickly turned into parodies of themselves, and then there was a whole slew of 2nd tier bands that were just parodies of them (Eater, Slaughter & the Dogs etc). But Wire were something quite different. For me, it was them and Magazine that took the attitude of punk and turned into something really different and worthwhile. But now I sound like I am trying to write for NME.....

Cheers,

Nigel

Indeed, thanks for bumping this Nick. I never got to comment again as I intended!  ???

Sterling cover, Nigel - this sounds like it could have been recorded in the 'Pink Flag' sessions! Excellent vox, guitar, bass and drums - it all fits perfectly and the production is flawless.

I discovered Wire a bit later than you, around 1978 or '79 (took a while to make it across the pond), but their art-punk approach always appealed more to me than most of the punk bands at the time. They weren't well known even in 'the scene' (as it was) over here, which I will never understand. But 'Pink Flag' and '154' (and 'Chairs Missing' to a bit lesser extent) remain among my favorite albums ever - they've stood the test of time very well.

I'm up for that one, defo.  I'd probably start with 1-2-X-U or maybe Outdoor Miner (the short one)

didn't read through this massive thread, but it's obvious you have the gift Nigel.
I love everything about this recording.

About 2 months ago I dug this off Nigel's jukie and have been hearing it once in a while...first off, if you can play like that and sing and yell like that you gotta be really good (and some of this has a "Greeny" feel too).... Second, if you can mix like that with headphones....wow!  Nigel you really don't have that many songs on here but they are all pretty awesome quality....thanks...
