Hi people

For the last few months Nick (nightcaller) and I have been collaborating with another old friend called Mark, re-recording some songs that we wrote together back in the late 70s/early 80s in a band called False Prophet.  We have 5 songs pretty much complete and another 5 at various stages.  We've started a myspace page where we will post a few ditties and the first is there now if you fancy a listen.  The songs are quite big (in terms of mb) so I haven't tried ripping them at a lower bitrate yet - hence the myspace link.

The song is called "Nightcaller" (no prizes for guessing why Nick chose this online name) and the link is:

This is a long distance three way collab between Poland, London and the English midlands and has involved a few different pieces of recording equipment - more details if anyone is interested.

I've justworked out how to have a second Soundclick "band" so here's a link if anyone prefers:

Nice one :)

Trying to think who the voice (yours?) reminds me of (just here and there, a cross between good old Biff and Bruce mebbe?).

Fine guitaring on here... and then suddenly there's Ian Anderson!! :D (Was that you on the keys, or does someone play flute?)

Were you guys this good back in the late 70s early 80s?

Sounds great, love that 70s/80s sound. It starts 80s ish and then goes really prog with that amazing flute break! Lots of interesting aspects to this song  - great stuff, good to hear you playing together again.

BTW, this is just what I am doing with my old buddies - check out Colt 45:

Hi Andy.  I only play keyboards on this particular track.  The vocals are all Nick (aka Nightcaller) -as is the bass guitar.  The lead guitar is our good friend Mark Drozdz - who also programmed all the drums.  I do get to play lead guitar on a few songs some of which I will inflict on you in due course.  We used to share lead guitar 50:50 back then, but since I get to play all the keyboard parts, Mark has picked up most of the guitar duties on our current project.  That seems only fair.

The flute on the Bach gavotte in the middle is indeed me on keys.  I am a huge Ian Anderson fan.

Were we as good then?  We certainly thought we were, but the reality was probably different.  We had a few moments live - and we were definately a lot louder!

Thanks for your interest.

Thanks for the info. I'm a big Ian Anderson fan as well. His flute stuff I'm just an interested bystander really - I wonder if any one else would have done it if he hadn't decided there were too many guitarists out there for him to get a look in :D

But his songwriting, singing, and guitar playing (and the standing on one leg!) really grab me. I found them mid to late 80s, I only saw them for the first time on the 25th anniversary tour, and the minute I saw him I realised "Now that's what I was trying to be on stage!!" (unfortunately I'd "retired "by then :D)

I went through a big Jethro Tull thing in my songwriting in the 90s, shows up in Sleeping With The Ghost I posted the other day, and even more so in some other things I'm contemplating from the same period...

I've been fortunate enough to see Tull a few times.  Wembley and the Albert Hall and then sadly the most recent was about 4 or 5 years ago in a relatively small theatre in Northampton.  Ian Anderson's voice was pretty shot, to the extent that he played a lot of the vocal lines on flute rather than sing them.  He was still a wonderful entertainer, and a truly great raconteur.  Oh, and Martin Barre is really underrated guitar player.

Well done!  Reminds me a bit of the Canadian band Saga.

Well written and performed prog rock song! I'm listening this again and again. It sounds better all the time. In this song is so many really fine parts and layers, which are well arranged. Here is so much skill on its each part. The drums has been programmed especially well. Ambitious work guys!

Wow.
I don't know where to start. First the musical arrangement is outstanding. Kick ass guitar and flute solos. I just love to hear organs in rock music. The vocals reminds me of Meat Loaf.
This piece is good to the last note.
Excellent collab guys.

That is just faultless!!!   Everything chopping and changing throughout creating new interest at different points, but still having the same theme running through it. Great work.
