"Can't Get High"

I fired up the BR-1600 and decided to record another tune to try out the new VE-20 vocal processor.  Only problem is that it currently resides at the abode of "John the Singer."  Such is life.  The last tune "Sugaree" was below my range, so I decided to just let loose on this one vocally to see what would happen.  And I'm just buzzed enough to post this version of Bloodkin's "Can't Get High," popularized (a relative term) by Widespread Panic.

This is epic for me as it not only includes my own unique caterwauling but also marks the debut of my "drumming" as well.  The booze really started hitting me as I started to mix.  At one point, I caught myself squinting to better hear.  I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I reckon it's no good in the grand scheme of things.

I'll stop blathering on now.

Recorded on the BR-1600.
Drums from Yamaha DT-Xpress IV
All guitar is from my cheapo but lovable Squier Telecaster (through a Line 6 unit)
Bass is from my even more cheapo and perhaps more lovable Epiphone (also through a Line 6 unit)

Blooby... Wow man... what a powerful vocal performance. Drums... are you kidding me... is there nothing you can't do??? BTW the drums sound awesome... care to share your recording process??? I don't think I've ever acheived that good of a sound. BAD ASSSSSS

I'm mixing down through a Yamaha MW12CX using SM 57's on the Tom's, Audix I5 Snare, Sure Beta 52A Kick. I've also tried the Realistic PZM's on live recordings... Lined into MBR.  I haven't got around to baffling the room yet. Getting a bunch of overtones. But I think my main problem is not knowing what effects to put on each instrument. I've tried gates, reverbs you name it... just can't find the magic potion. Also I think an area mic or two wouldn't hurt. Ohhh and a Pearl CM MMX series....Sounds to me like you got it nailed.
