Before you click on these, I like James Taylor as well (as well as countless other artists).  I guess this would be the "yang."

For me, Shawn Lane was one of the greatest musicians I've ever heard. Unfortunately, people dismiss him as only a shredder (and shred he does..quite a bit...some would say excessively...I guess I'm one of those people), but man, he just had it all.  Love his chording to start this off, and then those blue notes...whew. And then comes the shredding, and yes, I know it's ill-placed, but you can't help but shake your head in disbelief.

I really dig his Indian-flavored stuff (not represented in the videos below).  He was also ridiculously talented on piano.

I still kick myself for blowing off the drive to Atlanta to see him with Jonas Hellborg and Jeff Sipe.

Bugger.

Once you get past the shredding, there are some nice melodic moments in this tribute video below.

Finally!!!!! someone who recognizes Shawn lane as a guitar master other than myself.  I totally agree with yourself.  He was a one of a kind prodigy and yes, I would have loved to see him play!

Here's my youtube list of his videos!  Amazing!
