You wouldn't believe the irony in your statement, because last week I broke my shoulder and haven't had the chance to play with my new toy, and ... yes ... washing the dishes has proven to be a bit of a challenge! Now I have to wait for my stupid shoulder to heal before I can get down to playing guitar again. Oh well ... I guess it will be that much sweeter when I get to actually record something. Thanks for all your replies.

Just like to thank all the br800 users on here for their thoughts and advice in this thread. Lots of interesting and informative info.
I love my br800 but I also still love and use my mbr.
The mbr is great for getting ideas down quickly. With the br800 the process is more intensive and as a result I spend more time experimenting and working out where I want a song to go. This means songs may lose some of the immediacy of songs created with my mbr. But the results of using the br800 means I create more complex and lush songs.
Like the mbr is for sketching and the br800 is for painting.

I just noticed that the BR-800 has been discontinued.

I'm not sure when that happened, but it means that the Micro BR BR-80 is now the only multitrack recorder offered by Boss/Roland.

I guess it shouldn't be too surprising that the BR-800 has been discontinued; it was introduced over 10 years ago. But it's a shame that they haven't replaced it with a new model. The BR-80 was introduced a year after the BR-800, so I wonder if it will soon be discontinued as well. Then Boss/Roland would be completely out of the hardware multitrack recorder market. I hope that doesn't happen and they introduce some new multitrack recorders. But I doubt that they will.

If Boss/Roland stop offering multitrack recorders, I guess that will just leave Tascam and Zoom.

On the bright side, there might be some good bargains on the BR-800 in the coming months as retailers try to unload their old stock.

Update: It looks like it's not discontinued yet in the USA as the US pages at the Boss site still show the BR-800 as a current model.

Yet the global Boss website has it marked as discontinued and doesn't show it in their list of current Backing, Rhythm & Recorders. I guess it's only a matter of time before it's discontinued in the US and UK. Maybe they've still got a lot of stock they want to sell before they admit that it's discontinued. I think the fact that it's marked discontinued on the global site at least means that they've stopped making new ones. So when supplies run out in the US and UK, I expect they'll discontinue it and update their websites accordingly.

64 guitars.... I was looking a few months ago and they have gone away or just really small...I guess they didn't have the market anymore for the other stuff with everyone using DAW.... honestly though... I still love my 1600 and i bought a second one for 300....can you imagine if we could take one of these back in a time machine to 1975 or whatever....they really are amazing machines....I would keep mine even if i ever stopped recording on it....just for the guitar patches (and the ones I am going to create....)
