I just started singing about a month ago, so I don't know what I'm doing. But since I'm new at singing, I'm covering AIC because their my favorite band...

I would like any advice you would like to give me, since I'm so new to this, I need it.

Since this is the first time that I've ever shared my vocals on any site, I admit that I feel totally emarrassed, but I'm sure everyone does when they first start doing things.

Also, keep in mind that I am intentionally going for a live sound, not a studio recording sound.

I just used an USB mic, since that's all I have to work with.

Satchwood

Great first song singing Mav, you sound alot like Layne Staley!!  You did a great job trying to sing over all of my crazy guitar parts ~ it definitely got a live vibe to it!  Even a bit spooky sounding....

I definitely need to cut out the guitar melody parts for you, i think that it would help you hear your vocals better for sure.

A fine job on your first vocal post! Maybe use a little less reverb (Unless that's your style - I don't want to mess with your style!), but overall I thought you did very well.

I agree with Satch that you do sound a lot like 'ol Layne!

Way to go - Keep up the good work!!

Thanks guys.
Well, the effects I kind of thought were important due to trying to make this cover sound live.

I use Cakewalk, a USB mic, and headphones.

Satchwood sent me a re-mixed version of the backtrack, so it takes away the way he played the melody lines with the guitar. So pretty soon I'll post some other versions of the song with his new mix.

cool...you got a William S. Burroughs thing going on on the remixed version.

Great start Maverick, and definitely you should keep going. It sounds better with less reverb. My advice would be to get a Micro BR. The onboard mike is great and there are some great vocal effects which really help you get a good vocal sound if you are singing at home. I'm sure the USB mike doesn't do you any favours.

Damn well done for having the guts to try this, as hearing you sing your own lyrics is something i am sure we will all look forward to.

Cheers,

Nigel
