BR Explorer problem

I get an access violation error message in vcl50.bpl when I start up BR Explorer -
read from some address it shouldn't read from. BR Explorer continues running
when I close the error message box, but the song data it displays don't really
look like what I input to the Micro BR. Since the program seems to be a few years
old putting an older version of vcl50.bpl into the programs folder might help -
I'm currently running windows 7. Unfortunately I can't find an older version of
vcl50.bpl on the net. Has anyone of you got a version of BR Explorer running on
an older windows system - XP or previous - and could perhaps mail me a copy
of that bpl or post a link where to find it?

That problem first appeared with Windows Vista. It could be a bug in BR Explorer but I suspect that it's a bug in VCL50.BPL, which is a runtime module from Borland C++Builder 5.0 and Delphi. There are no other versions of VCL50.BPL that I'm aware of, and other versions of VCL probably wouldn't work. By all accounts, BR Explorer works normally after you close the error message.

I suspect that the error message might be a result of Windows' DEP. Try turning off DEP just for BR Explorer. See this page:

If that solves the problem, leave it off. If not, you can turn it back on. Let me know either way.

Can you give an example?

The only problem I'm aware of where data displayed by BR Explorer is inaccurate is in the Track Usage tab. It incorrectly marks deleted tracks as in-use. But, other than deleted tracks, the Track Usage should be correct.

That's exactly what I meant.

Tried it, but the same error message shows up.

Anyway, if the points mentioned don't harm the execution
of the program - as you say - it's alright with me.

Thanks, 64G!
