Before I go any further I have to admit it's not unplugged at all apart from Nick's vocals.  I'm a keyboard player and don't have a real piano - or oboes, flutes, string quartet etc.  But if I did, it could have been unplugged.....

As it is its just a cover of one of the prettier Purple songs, "This Time Around" from the Come Taste The Band album.  Written by Glenn Hughes, Jon Lord and Tommy Bolin this version features Nicky (nightcaller) on vocals and me doing a sort of chamber music arrangement of the backing on synth.

Hopefully not too LLoyd Webber this time (around)!

You're right Ted - but in my defence I did admit it straight away!  And it was inspired by all the great properly-unplugged songs that were posted here.

Hopefully we'll be forgiven.

For the piano (and most of the other instruments you hear) I used a Yamaha Motif XS7.  It's a truly awesome keyboard, particularly for sampled "real" instruments like piano, strings, woodwind etc.  The brass sounds are very good too, but I don't use them so much as I end up sounding like Herb Alpert.

A lot of purple fans didn't like "Come Taste The Band" probably because it was after Ritchie Blackmore left the first time.  Personally I think that Tommy Bolin was a fabulous guitar player - when he wasn't too smashed to play.

Whoa, this is excellent fellas - such craft and drama in the music (the keyboard sounds great, and I'm sure it's more convenient than hiring an orchestra!) and the vocals are full of expression...reminds me a bit of Steve Martin of The Left Banke.

I don't know the original song, but I thoroughly enjoyed this unplugged cover.
