Microbr using external microphone

I am getting a Rode M3 carotid mic for vocals and guitar. I assume that the lead I will need is xlr to mono mini jack. To put it another way, I assume that a standard microphone jack can't be plugged into the guitar jack plug and routed through ext (which would mean that I could use an xlr to standard jack lead).
Hope I am making sense.

According to the RĂ˜DE website, the M3 can be powered by a 9-volt battery or 24/48V phantom power. If you use the 9-volt battery, you can connect the M3 directly to the Micro BR using a suitable adapter. The Micro BR's external mic input is a stereo mini jack, so I'd recommend getting a "Y" adapter cable with a stereo mini plug at one end and two suitable jacks at the other end (one for each of the left and right channels). Those jacks could be female XLR connectors, for example, and you could plug the M3 directly into either one of them, depending on which track you wanted to record to (odd-numbered tracks are left channel and even-numbered tracks are right channel). Or, if you prefer, the "Y" adapter could have two 1/4" mono phone jacks instead and you could use an XLR-to-phone adapter to connect the M3 to it.

If you want to use the M3's 24/48V phantom power, you'll have to plug the M3 into a mixer, mic preamp, or other device that can supply the required phantom power to the M3 via the XLR connector. You would then connect the mixer/preamp to the Micro BR's stereo Line In using a suitable cable.

Either way, be sure to turn off the Micro BR's PlugIn Power before you connect the M3 (see page 114 of the Micro BR manual). According to the Micro BR manual, your M3 could be damaged otherwise.

I have a twin jack into stereo minijack adapter already so I can use that with my xlr to jack mic lead. You can buy xlr to minijack leads on the internet, so I may try that as an alternative. Thanks for the reply (and thanks for the heads up about turning off the microbr power)
