Hi all,
Ive been given an A K G microphone, there is provision inside the mic to place a battery (to increase power I would imagine) and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is a condensor mic, if so, if I take out the battery, is it safe to apply phantom power  to it through my boss br900 without fear of damage to my system.

thanx ak

AK - These systems are fairly rugged. It will either work or not, I doubt you'll do any damage by plugging in to see what happens.

What's the model of the microphone?

I think its the c1000, but the mic is a scratced around the model number. Im more concerned about possible damage to my boss br900 than the mic. Ive been told that if it is the c1000 then its safe to use phantom power as long as I remove the battery.

thanx

AK - I've had my BR900 for about 6 years, and in that time I've had dynamics, condensers and all-sorts attached (at the same time sometimes. This is a no-no actually.) and both mics and machine are still functioning perfectly. (Actual instruments to plug into the BR900  is a sore point at the moment). Don't forget, I use these machines and so they have to be made idiot proof!! As per my previous post, the mic will either work or not. Simply plugging in a microphone will not do damage. Probably someone will now come along saying how they ruined their BR by plugging in a mic. If you're in som much doubt, take it to your local music store and ask the senior guy etc. Good luck.

Thanx SteveB

Going to give it a try later, thanx for the reasurance. I'm always over cautious where anything electrical is involved, hence the hesitation.

AK - I've been presuming that you've access to a BR900 Owner's Manual. If you have, see page 191 about the topic Phantom Power, it may set your mind at rest. If not, you can download one from here:
