Man, I love Joe Bonassama's guitar work on Sloe Gin. I wanted to practice some leads so I made a loop of just the verse and chorus with a bass and drum track. Then I added a rhythm guitar track, and then another, and another, and before long I had put so much into it that I thought I might as well share it with you guys.

So, it's not really a true version of Sloe Gin. There's no bridge or vocals. It's really more of just me just doing some lead stuff on top of Joe's brilliant chord progression. I guess you could call it "inspired by Sloe Gin". Wait, that doesn't sound right.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. I'm hoping some of you lead gurus will offer some pointers. The lead stuff is kind of a struggle for me, but Tharek's open mic project inspired me to push myself and do an all instrumental song.

All comments and suggestions are welcome.

Peace,
Rick

I always considered you to be one of the gurus! This is slick stuff - I think the lead is great. Full control of your guitar, like you were completely comfortable doing it. Tough to beat that.

The trem part was cool, too.

I love to hear more of this kind of stuff. Your tone is excellent...sounded like you used your fingers or switched pickups on the bass heavy stuff.

Hey, thanks everyone!

Mark, that's kind of you to say, but it took a lot of takes to get to the final track. Someday I hope to improve to the point to where I really am comfortable and can get it down in one take.

Hank, the main source of the tone for the lead guitar was my Tech 21 Tri-AC run dry into the BR600.  I also used 3 different Marshall pedals: reverb, delay, and chorus. Oh yeah, and an Ibanez Tube Screamer and my trusty Boss EQ pedal.  All the other parts were recorded with preset patches in the BR600 (including the trem part). I played all the guitar parts on my Fender Custom Tele (Korean made). It's built more like a Les Paul (humbuckers) than a Telecaster. I did switch the pickups back and forth, and also between using a pick and my fingers. Good ear!

I really do appreciate the encouragement, guys. I was kind of nervous about posting this one.
