BR-1600 realtime drums after vocals and guitar

Started by millerrl, February 21, 2010, 08:34:49 PM

I just joined this site today and am lost.  I have recorded vocals and guitar to a metro track on my BR 1600 and would like to record drums using realtime to the already recorded tracks.  I can't seem to figure it out.  Can you help me get to a forum or place that might help me?
Thanks

Sorry I'm afraid you're mostly out of luck on this - unless your metronome track is based on the tempo map of the BR-1600.

Read my application note on programming drums for the BR-1600CD here:

You'll notice that the process requires that you start with drums to get the tempo map established.

I'm not sure what you mean by "metro track" but if you mean that you recorded your vocals and guitar to the tempo of the BR-1600's built-in metronome, then you can create a drum arrangement as long as you use the same tempo that you had the metronome set to when you recorded the guitar and vocals. See Gene's guide in the link above.

As for realtime, the BR-1600 doesn't have proper drum pads like the BR-600. You can tap on the Track buttons to trigger the various drum sounds but it's hard to do with accuracy as they have a very 'clicky' feel. You'd be better off learning how to program patterns and arrangements in the BR-1600's drum machine.

Gene & 64 guitars:  Thanks for the advice.  I did record the vocals and guitar to the 1600's metronome track and I will try to do he realtme drums and see how it goes.  Russ

If you have a little play with the step time recording feature of the progrmmable rhythm, and set up a few basic patterns you will soon get the hang of it.  What I do is set up a basic pattern and then repeat it 100 times or so in the rhythm arrangement section and use that rather than a boring sounding metronome.  Then once I've recorded some other instruments I gradually substitute some of the bars (measures) for other more interesting patterns as they occur to me.

I have to say that I find programming the drums as one of the best parts of the recording process.

But then I am quite a sad person...
