MP3 encoding?

I just submitted some of my best recordings to a site but was told the mp3 quality was not good enough.

Here is my process:  I use a BR900CD, then, on my computer, convert the file to wav so that Audacity can deal with it, then when I export the file to mp3 I choose 41000 and 128 as the (sampling rate).

i don't really understand this stuff.  I thought that this was pretty much cd quality.
The site I submitted to told me to try sampling at a higher rate, yet they state that the material must be submitted in 41000-128?

Am I missing a set of numbers?  What in an Encoder?

Can someone please talk me through, step by step, as I am not really tech savvy, on what I should be doing?  Help. please!

I have to leave my computer for a week now as I am going into hospital, so please accept my thankyou(s) in advance as I won't be able to personally thank anyone for a week or more (I live in country Australia and the major hospitals are about a lightyear away.  :D

I just had a look on the Moo Moo web site and their FAQ says:

"MP3 - Moo Moo Music require all MP3 files to be less than 10 MB. Also, the MP3 must be encoded in MPEG 1.0, Layer III, 128kbps, 44.1khz, and any form of stereo (most MP3 encoders do this by default)."

So you did it right. The only thing I can suggest is to try to verify that your MP3 files really are 128kbps, 44.1khz. Try loading them into a few different audio programs and see what information they give you. For example, one that might help is Switch.

Maybe it was only a typo, but was your sample rate really 41000 or was it actually 44100, which is what it should be?  Maybe that could be the problem?

Also, was the mp3 16 bit? It should be.
