Micro BR card SD socket damaged

Started by tomcor33, February 13, 2010, 12:57:56 AM

I have a Micro BR that somehow the SD card socket got bent so bad I can't put a card in it now. Does anyone have broken board that may have a good card socket I can install in my MBR? I am a tech person so I am able to solder a replacement to the main board. Any help would be great.

I have a BR-600 which I just got also. this forum has some very good info.

Thanks

Ted might have one. PM him. On another note, the last time I cracked my MBR open the socket looked to be pretty standard. You might be able to locate a replacement part through an electronic parts reseller.

Like, Ted, as in user name Ted. But his real name is Ted.

I just did a quick search, and those card sockets are available everywhere. The type you need is the push/push type, not the push/pull type. You would not need the metal shield that comes with some of them.

Here is an example. They should be cheap: http://cgi.ebay.com/5-pcs-mini-SD-Memory-Card-Connector-Socket_W0QQitemZ370234884793QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5633b802b9

I don't have time to remove the cover to my MBR, but I would recommend you compare photos. Also, be careful when you remove the bottom cover to the MBR. It looks like you can destroy your board and SD card socket if you don't take the memory card out first. I had detailed instructions for this procedure somewhere.

I did try one from Ebay. There is some differences in the replacements as far as number of pins and placement. When first soldered it I got a "card locked" error. Then I tryed to carefully resolder making sure there were no solder bridges between the pins. Now I am getting a "card not formatted error" even though it already is formatted. The type replacement would be a "reverse (because the card is inserted upside down and a push -push socket. Also I did try different cards also, including the original Boss card.
