Boss Micro BR card read error

Hi,

When playing MP3s sometimes the BR stops and give "card read error". I upgraded to 1.04, formated the card and still fails.

I expended $225 +tax in this thing mainly to slow down MP3s and am really upset with the bad quality of this product. I mean, it would have been a great thing comming from Boss, but it fails reading MP3 and I don't even have used it for recording.

My point is, after reading some comments from others user in this forum who had had similar problems, and Boss does nothing to fix it.

They should follow the path of Toyota and recall all of these Micros BR, as HP did with defective calculators. This would be something that returns the trust in Boss. And it is a matter of responsability.

I'm sorry but for me, 2 thumbs down for Boss & Roland.

P.S.

Perform the followin search in the forum: "card read error" and you'll see what I'm talking about...

if you followed the search you will see it is a problem easily resolved, being an mp3 player is not the microbr's main purpose but i have had many mp3players over the years that couldnt cope with the vagaries of the format.
use any mp3 convertor to convert your mp3s ensuring they are set at 44.1khz (which i believe is the standard for most recording equipment) and you wont have any further problems. dont give up too easily you have a fantastic box of tricks that will do a lot more than just slow down mp3s. regarding the mp3s you use if they are not set at 44.1khz thats not boss's problem to fix thats whoever provided you with naff mp3s.

Memory card incompatibilities are a common problem in a lot of devices. Most manufacturers provide a list of compatible cards* and Roland is no exception. You'll find their list here:

http://media.rolandus.com/manuals/MICRO-BR_AP.pdf (a printed copy also came with your Micro BR)

There's a more up-to-date list on the Roland Japan website. Unfortunately, it's in Japanese:

http://www.roland.co.jp/support/confirmation/detail.cfm?recordID=1806526&mode=auto&PRODUCT=M-BR

You can try translating it with Babelfish or Google Translate.

Are you using a card from these lists? Have you tried the 128MB card that came with your Micro BR? If you get the same errors with the card that came with your Micro BR, then phone Roland Tech Support. I'm sure they will help you resolve the problem.

If you're not using a compatible memory card, then you can hardly blame Roland for that. Get a compatible card from Roland's list.

* As I said above, card incompatibilities are not unique to Roland recorders, and most manufacturers publish a list of supported media cards. Here are a few examples: Fostex, TASCAM DP-004, ZOOM H4.

Well, first of all, thanks for your answers an for your time.

I keep saying that there is a problem with MBR.

Ok, here is the thing:

- I upgrade 1.04
- I use Boss adapter. No batteries, to be sure that weak batteries aren't the problem.
- Have two cards for this MBR: the original that came with with the recorder and a Lexar 1 MB, which is approved by Boss operating manual.
- Both cards have 3 songs.
-I consider that this is not a problem with the 44.1 Mhz, because, of these three songs that I have, two of them can be played, but reaching the end of the song, it hangs and "card read error" again.
-Both cards do the same: error.
-I dont use this as an MP3 player to listen music. Is for practice the songs slowly so I can learn the songs. It is one of the features that Boss announced. If I would like to hear songs, I just buy an Ipod, and thats it. I bought it to play songs and slow them down, as advertised.
-Some times playing MP3 it says "incompatilble format" in the middle of a song. Doesn't make sense to me because if you start playing the song, at the begining of it you should've got the messge.
Well, conclusion: It doesnt work.... for me.$225 to the trash can. + tax an 20 bucks for 1 GB card... At least I never record on it....

Then it sounds to me like your Micro BR has a problem. Phone Roland Tech Support.

If you're using a supported card with the Boss PSA adapter and version 1.04, you should not be getting card read errors. You'll probably need to send your Micro BR to Roland for repair. Give them a call.
