Zoom hd16cd

  Hello.  My Zoom hd16cd just arrived....thank you UPS!!  The unit is bigger than I thought it would be, and its fairly heavy.  Now I need some headphones so I can try this thing out. 
  Does anybody have a Zoom here?  I glanced through the manual looking for info on speakers.  When I get speakers I'm trying to figure out if I need them to be powered and if so would my old powered computer speakers work just to get started.

I don't have Zoom (I use a BR1600) but although I'm sure you can use your Computer monitor speakers, I would get a reasonable pair of powered studio monitor speakers as soon as funds allow.  You won't believe how much difference they make to your recordings.  It really helps to be able to clearly hear yourself throughout the whole process.  I use an old pair of Roland DS5s which are hardly top range but infinitely better than using PC monitors or even a hifi amp and speakers.
