Hi, Well done there..great natural sounding voices, warm harmonies, all nicely recorded. You both need a big pat on the back for this one:)) Great work

Thanks very much for your kind words which I'll pass on to Sarah - I know she will be very pleased.

I'm really pleased with the recorded tone of the guitar.  She has a Takemine electro-acoustic and I recorded the DI'ed sound to one track and simultaneously recorded a close miced signal from an old Shure unidyne III (an early SM57 type dynamic mic) to a second track.  I panned the mic track fairly hard right and the DI track (which had a much higher signal volume) about 15% left.  I wanted the sound to be fairly central in the mix but with as much of a natural sounding tone from the mic as possible.  It was really enjoyable to experiment with this while she played.  When I'm recording myself playing I usually concentrate more on my playing than fiddling with recording options.  I guess that's fairly natural! It was a good learning experience for me.

The other depressing thing I learned was how much more authentic sounding her Takemine's electro output sounded than my Ovation.  I've got an early USA LTD stereo Legend Ovation which is probably worth a few bob but frankly doesn't sound a patch on her newish guitar.  I suppose that's the march of technology for you.

Now all I've got to do is convince her to write another 10 songs and I'll record her album!

All the best

very nice production. The guitar sounds great, good EQ. and the mix is very good. I don't have much experience dealing with folk music, but it's sounds good to me.

On the topics of Acoustics, I bought a red quilt top Jasmine just over a year ago for $400 (case included), and even though it's a lesser model than a Taka-G series, it sounds (in my humble opinion) great for a budget semi-pro guitar, and handles well when 1/2 step downtuned.

heh, I just had an Idea... gonna take my microBR next time I go to the music store and record samples of all the wall hangers. that way you could compare with play back lol.

You're right - This song needs nothing. Beautiful in every way possible.

Love it.

In all seriousness, that's probably not a bad idea at all.

I don't think it's technology so much as Ovations just having that rather thin "Ovation" sound.

I've now managed to convince Sarah to do the Myspace thing.  If you get a chance have a quick listen at her page and perhaps send a comment.  She's been through a bit of a tough time recently and this might cheer her up.
