Recording on Windows Mobile

Hi,
I am looking into getting a small recording device for practice and storing musical ideas for later development.  I looked at the Micro BR but then ran across Meteor http://www.4pockets.com/product_info.php?p=82.  It is 12 track recording software with a mixer and effects for Windows Mobile for $30US.

For PDAs, an iPaq110 or ASUS A626 PDA both come with a 3.5" color touch screen and cost less than $280.  You can get the ASUS on Amazon for $240-ish.  Either have a larger, more user friendly screen than the Boss for only a little more money.  Not to mention that they can handle a lot more that 1GB of SD memory.  Or, you could run it on your smartphone if you have one.  Then you'll always have it on you for when inspiration strikes.

In addition, both are full WiFi PDAs so you can surf the web and install lots of different software on it.  For example, MidNote http://www.pdamusician.com/midnote.html is a music notation program for PDA.

The disadvantage is that you cant plug your guitar into it.  Its for mic only.  That might be fine if you are all acoustic and you are not looking for studio quality recordings.  The sound quality of the mic is probably not as good as the Boss either, but who knows?  You also cant record two things at a time.  It seems like if these PDAs had a decent interface for inputting 1/4" and mic (like a SDIO card) they would kill the Boss.  The specs do say it has a "WMA Audio Input Microphone Expansion".  I have no idea what that is.

I was wondering if anyone had considered doing this instead of the Boss device.  What do you think?

welcome to the forum
The MBR is geared more towards guitarists-the guitar effects are quite good-electric or acoustic-It can be used as an MP3 player, tuner, phrase trainer and a field recorder.
You're idea is a sound one though for those into PDA's.
Very interesting indeed
I myself have no use for a PDA.

It has always been my experience that "good" software will never beat "great" hardware. The MicroBR is a fantastic device for anybody that plays guitar because it was designed for that purpose. As powerful as PDAs have become these days, I have yet to see one geared towards those who record music. Just my 2 cents.  :)
