Is it possible to save data direct from the RE to a computer file for later use in the RE or in the br600?
If smoking's so bad why does it cure kippers?

64Guitars

Definitely. Click the PATTERN WRITE button to save a pattern. Click the ARRANGEMENT WRITE button to save an arrangement. Or click the WRITE button in the lower right corner of the Drum Kit area to save a drum kit.

neither 'pattern write' or 'write' in the drum kit are highlighted to enable me to do that!

You have to either be connected to the BR via USB or have copies of the necessary folders and files from the BR in the root directory of a drive on your computer. If the object is to create patterns and arrangements for your BR-600, then the easiest way is to connect via USB.

  • If the BR Rhythm Editor is open, close it.
  • Connect a USB cable between the BR-600 and your computer.
  • Put the BR-600 into Backup mode.
  • Open the BR Rhythm Editor.
  • Click the SONG READ button to select the song you wish to edit.

All of the write buttons should then be functional.

Followed those instructions  600 recognised as the 'M' drive, with Roland folder containing Bro / SMF / Toneload & Usb. Toolbar 'dissconnect hardware' recognises the 'M' drive, but when I click Song Read a window opens and says Not connected to the Br 900 CD & none of the three write buttons illuminate.  600 display now reads USB BACKUP / IDLING.

Does the button to the right of the SONG READ button say CONNECT or DISCONNECT? If it says CONNECT, then click it to connect to the BR-600. The text on the button will change to DISCONNECT. On the other hand, if the button already said DISCONNECT, click it to disconnect. The text will change to CONNECT. Now click it again to see if it will connect.

Once you've properly connected, the button will say DISCONNECT and the three write buttons should be enabled.

The button text indicates its purpose, not its current status. So, if it says CONNECT, that means you're not currently connected.

re-tried and 'connect button' was lit, when pressed changed to disconnect and all other buttons now lit. so to save any three options press any of the write buttons to save. So where exactly will it save it to? and I assume transfering it to the 600 will be in the RE manual somewhere.

Because you're connected to the BR-600, there's no need to transfer anything. Any patterns, arrangements, or drum kits that you create in the BR Rhythm Editor will be written directly to the BR-600's memory card when you click the appropriate Write button. Later, when you disconnect the BR from your computer, you'll have access to everything that you created in the BR Rhythm Editor.

OK, do you suggest any particular order of laying down the tracks, or is it personal preference?

Steve

64Guitars

Sorry Steve. I don't understand your question. Are we still talking about the BR Rhythm Editor or are you asking about recording audio tracks on your BR-600? The Rhythm Editor doesn't really have tracks so I don't know what you mean. If you're asking about audio tracks then the order doesn't really matter except that you need your drum arrangement first to provide a tempo reference (unless you use the built-in metronome instead). If you have more questions unrelated to the Rhythm Editor, you should start a new topic.
