Bass amps?

Does it matter about weight - don't bass players get someone else to carry their kit for them?

Weight? Other people?  My cab weighs over 100lbs (that's about 50kg for Geir) and there are surprisingly few people about when I have to carry it up stairs.

Surprising about the vanishing people :)
When I need my Traynor 2*15 cab moved no one is ever around.

Not sure of your location, different places have lower prices on different brands due to import costs.
For instance in Canada Traynor's, Line-6, Roland  and Fender probably have the lower costs than some other brands like Orange or "Gallien-Krueger".

A Fender Rumble 150 is 380$cdn  and the Line 6 - 150 is 440$cdn but they do come in around 29.5 kg (65Lbs).

Low frequencies need a lot more power to generate volume levels than the other instruments, I think I'd want at least 60 or more watts.

My Brother-in-law has a 480 watt Gallien-Krueger with a 4*10 cab in their group and their overly loud lead strat player can drown him out using a mid powered VOX or Fender twin if he gets his thing going.

Watts aren't necessarily the best indicator of how loud an amp is, especially when comparing tube to solid state.

What requirements would you guys have for a bass amp? I would think that an xlr output would be a must. I am not thrilled about having to Mic up my amp when I want to do live recording, and that's additional expense when you can just get it built in. Of course I don't know if you lose dynamics when using an xlr....... Thoughts?

If you're on a budget this one seems to be good value for the money:

I know Behringer is a 4-letter word for some people, but I've only had good experience with their products.

I have direct output on both my guitar amp and bass amp. And while they really do work fairly well, I find that I prefer to mic it up. The direct output works great as well as it should. But I found that you only get whatever sound you eq.. very similar to what you would hear with it normally coming from the speakers. But by mic'ing, you have much more control over the sound you are recording just by mic placement. Moving the mic to different parts of the speaker cone will yield you more or less bass, mids, etc depending on location of the mic.

Although I prefer mic'ing, because I have a tendency to record after 12am, I usually don't get a chance to record in this method. :/ So that might be something to think about too.

I use DI out of the back of my bass amp now we have a decent PA. It works well. the alternative is to get a DI box and put that between the guitar and the amp. It works best with bass guitars, I would nearly always mic up a guitar cab.
