Memory card Brand

Hello everyone, I need to buy a 1GB memory card as the 128MB obviously isn't enough (once you realise what you can do with the machine ;D). I was just wondering if you had to buy the specific brands that are in the manual or are there other brands that are acceptable. I want to get a memory card today. Also how do i delete/erase a song from the memory to free space, the manuals limited. Thank you.

Ok ive solved the erase/delete problem. Just wondered if anyone used any 1GB cards different to what the manual suggested. :-\, and if they worked ok.

pretty much any 1 gig sd card will work-ive got a couple generic (Micro Center) cards  $6.99 that work just fine-just make sure you format them in the MBR first before using them

Hi all. I'm new to the community and to the Micro BR. I purchased a Kingston 1GB card and when I installed it everything looked great and seemed to work. Then I read where it had to be Initialized (Formatted) before it would work correctly.

I went through the steps to Initialize it and I got a CARD WRITE ERROR!, then the unit would not turn off or do anything...it froze up and the light stayed dim. I had to remove the batteries and start over. Now the card is not recognized and it says it is UNFORMATTED.

Did I fry the card? It works fine when I put the Boss 128MB card back in. Now, if I go get another card should I just insert it without doing the Intialize step? Will it work that way?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I started another thread about this (sorry, hadn't seen this one at the time), and have had some interesting findings.

The HP card that I tried gave me an error message, whereas a 1GB Kingston SD card didn't even need initializing. It worked straight out of the plastic. Oldrottenhead, I think, couldn't get a 1GB Kingston to work.

So, I think one just needs to try one's luck and make sure you can either take a card back to the seller if it doesn't work, or if you've ordered it online, don't spend so much that it would break the bank if it doesn't work (or hope that you could use it in some other device).

for good deals on SD cards, check newegg.com

Dealnews.com is a good source for them too...but newegg an actual dealer.

I got a 2GB for $4 shipped to me!

This may be a little off topic here, but regardless of your memory card, I would suggest that you back up your MBR at regular intervals and don't risk losing your precious music. Memory cards fail without warning and even if they are the best with a cast iron guarantee, all you get back from the manufacturer if they fail is a new card or your money back. You don't even get chicks for free.

There is a utility on the web, BR Explorer that will back your MBR up to a PC. I'm not sure about a Mac.

I think that 64guitars has it on his website.
