Internal or external mic for Micro Br?

Started by D28 boy, January 14, 2010, 04:14:24 AM

Hi

I've made some reasonable quality recordings using the internal mic for my vocals & acoustic guitar but I get pissed by the button noise etc.... Wondered if using an external mic was the answer... also presume that I would also get a better quality recording???

Can anyone provide advice & recommendations for a suitable mic on a budget

Rode m3 is on my list of things to get. Handling noise on micro is a bit of a bummer but can easily be recorded over! It's a very good inbuilt mic and with the EQ and compressor tweaked to your liking is very usable - I've recorded ukuleles, glockenspiels, live percussion, breaking waves, squeaky bicycle pumps, vocals, guitars, galloping horses, crying children etc etc with very good results.

Try searching Amazon. You can usually pick up shop-owned (not proper second hand) mics at reasonable prices. I bought the Sony ECM-DS70P Microphone - Stereo Plugin Power key (I think it is called) works a treat and is small and compact.

I like the Rode M3.  Extremely versatile self-powered condenser mike.  Good for lots of instruments and technologies (you can use it with you video camera as well as with the MBR or into a mixer or whatever). Good mic.

Hi

I use the internal mic and am very happy with it. As Henwrench says it's a very good quality mic. That being said, if you don't care to feed any possible GAS symptoms, you should try the AB autopunch feature. It works great, and there will be no clicks.

It's also a pain in the ass to man a guitar and work the controls, so this feature works well for that too - Just set autopunch for a few seconds before you start to play and it will automatically record your part with no clicks.

Just a thought, to save you some bucks!

Peace,
