i know the name doesn't imply the instrument, but i was inspired to do this piece today while doing some research about Cecil Taylor, one of the pioneers of the Avant Garde and Free Jazz genre. his style of playing piano has been likened to being a percussionist on "eighty-eight tuned drums". hence the name.

keep in mind i know absolutely nothing about keyboards.

thanks for listening.

This is so different and it needs perfect focusing to listen. So, I put headphones on and sat on easychair and listened... It is great that we can listen so many genres of music on this site!

You did pretty well here. Sounds very impressive - how much "prep" work did you do? If this just came straight out I am very impressed. Real boundary stretching stuff, between you and Henwrench I am getting stretched in all directions!!!

Cheers,

Nigel

thanks Nigel.

i improvised this in one take, playing with both hands at one time with no editing.

i know, that's how you're supposed to play piano.  :D  LMSAO  :D

what i'm saying is that in the past, i would record my keyboards in two parts.

in other words...

left and right hands on separate channels since i'm a highly accomplished keyboardist after 9 months of playing. LOL

I really like this so don't take this the wrong way - it sounds like it belongs on a cartoon.  Have you ever heard Raymond Scott?  He used to do the music for things like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck (to me that's good music) and he was a seriously out there jazz experimental musician.  Some of his stuff would sound contemporary even now.  Anyway that's what this reminds me of.  It's definitely saying something - but in very esoteric language.  I've never heard of Cecil Taylor before but I'm certainly keen to hear more.
Really impressive track you've come up with.

When I was a youngster, for like my 8th birthday or something, I got a small radio. It had earphones. It was brilliant. Late at night, when everyone was in bed and fast asleep, I would spend hours tuning the radio until I found what I called 'weirdo music', the sort of stuff you never heard in the daytime. I loved it and like to think it shaped some of my more left-field sensabilities. This tune has taken me right back to those times... I absolutely love this, mr2cool. I feel like an 8 year old again, listening to weirdo music in the middle of the night. Fantastic.
