What is your best year?

with the start of a new decade upon us this New Years day, i thought i would pose this question and see what kind of stories it will yield.

for me, it would be 1969. i was 13 years old and i can remember becoming aware of so many things like Harley Davison motorcycles. CCR's Suzie Q and Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida were the big songs of the day. I lived a stones throw away from Santa Cruz and dreamed of surfing. if you've ever seen the movie "The Lost Boys", my friends and i would hang out at the amusement park that the movie was filmed at.

1969 for me.

i think 81 was my best year, in glasgow there where bands making their mark on the bigger stage and as a result there where lots of great venues and bands to see. simple minds, josef k, orange juice, aztec camera, the scars, the fire engines, postive noise where some of the homegrown fare, but lots of bands came to glasgow too, bauhaus, per ubu, magazine i could go on and on. but the music scene locally was vibrant and thriving, lately there has been a bit of a ressurgence with bands like biffy clyro and glasvegas.
but 81 sticks in my mind

I was a regular visitor to Glasgow and Paisley back in the late seventies and there was stuff going, that's for sure.  But most of all I remember a full swing band with a torch singer blasting it out in the back room of a pub near Central Station on a Saturday afternoon.  Robbie Dean's Jazz Band.  You would have thought it was 3 am in Kansas City not a wet Saturday afternoon in Glasgow.  Thanks for the memory, Jim.
