Wow guys this really rocks!! Great parody tune and awesome vocab-smithing. I love the amps on '11' reference... Nigel would be proud! Astounding guitar tones you have, is it MBR presets? Sounds more like an amp. Great Job!

It was an extreme pleasure to give my small contribution to this one. The song sounded so good when I first heard it, I panicked a little bit - And the fact you could fly a B-52 through where the bass part was supposed to go didn't help!  ;D (Must make it fat, must make it fat....)

A well thought out parody that was a song of it's own - Sweeet!!! When I played this for the friends and family, even the non-musicians got a kick out of it. So what can you say but "I have no idea what a single coil hot rail is, baby, but it sure would look good on you!!"

Anyway, you are the man, Vann!!! I really enjoyed working with you.

Until the next time,

Mark

So Mark, what kind of bass is that?  And how do you get it to sound so deep and fat?  If you don't mind sharing your family secrets.  I really dig the bass sound here.

Hey Dave - I would be happy to share my family secrets with you!  :D

First of all, my bass is a Tradition B-100. It is Pre-Korean in the company's music line (Indonesia- WTF??!!?), bought at Down Home Music Shop in Watervile, ME about 10 years ago. The shop owner claimed to know the founder (Now deceased). My plank has flat, sweet neck and will most likely be the last bass I'll ever own. I love it. The electronics are a little weak, but I don't want to rock the boat by upgrading pickups because the overall sound is there.

The settings I used: I would love to give you profound and exciting, but I kept it fairly straightforward. Because the pickups are weak and I couldn't experience any gain, I cranked the jazz and p pickups. My tone pot is defective, so I just cracked it off 0 because it is all or nothing with that thing. The end result did provide enough gain, so I had to back off on the sensitivity - -4 with my bass. My Amp/Patch settings are as you have probably guessed - Direct drive into the MBR. My patch setting was the Bass Crunch 79 - Default with no changes.

With your new Jazz bass, I would primarily use the p pickup and turn up the jazz pickup gradually until you like the sound. The tone pot should be carefully adjusted to reduce finger noise - But turn it up as much as you can, because that is where you will get the definition! When I use a pick, the settings need to be changed to reflect the extra attack, but that is another story.

In the mix, real trick is to cut the low EQ on your guitar parts. I learned this from AndyR a long while back. And from this song, I see that Vann uses the same techniques. Your Tele doesn't invade the EQ spectrum too badly from my experience, but watch your other guitars. With guitar, bass cut on the EQ is your friend.

Peace, bro - Hope that helped a little. Time to collab again soon!  ;D

Oh well ........

Vanncad

Thanks for the comments everyone. I hope you all had a great Christmas.

Yulefest is great. There are some really good tunes posted. I especially like Bluesberry's "Grinch".

Launched - I'm really glad your "non-musician" friends got a kick out of it. Thanks again for helping out.

Mach - as far as specs for this song go, all guitars were done with an Epiphone Elite Custom Les Paul (with Gibson p/ups) plugged directly into the BR600. Vocals were done with an SM58 plugged directly in as well.

The BR600 settings:
Guitar 1 "Clean" - P55 (ARPEGGIO)
Guitar 2 "Dirty" - P25 (Rock Lead)
Guitar 3 "Lead" - P60 (WahLead)
Vocals - Mic P01 (VoComp1)

Mastered with P13 "Acoustic".
It ain't pretty being easy.
