the captains cruellest daughter
blew kisses 'cross the water
heave ho boys on the oar
bound away from sandy shore

drunken monkey beaten drum
we hoist the flag to show we've come
the devil cracked th' rollin' waves
spare us from our sodden graves

tempest tossed the ship with glee
how every man would love to flee
making this the last time he
would risk his life upon the sea

love and hate go hand in hand
everytime you leave the land
she'll take your life in just one blink
and send you down to the bottom of the drink

grapplin' with a buxom wench
whenever we're ashore
there's nothing like the welcome stench
of a well used pirate whore

the thick ripe smell that she gives
is a welcome scent to me
beats the stink of fifty men
and sixteen weeks at sea

twas a shitty night on the spanish mane
when a bolt did take my leg
with a hickory stump and a black patch eye
i'll make them ladies beg

for a salty dog and man like me
a taste of rum with a dash of sea
all i offer is measured in inches
just to see inside your stinkin' britches

I know a few of you will be familiar with this one already but I thought someones gotta go first and get this board off to a start (use it or lose it).
If you wanna listen to this little horror, you'll find her languishing in the Original songs board under 'The Captains Cruellest Daughter'. I might even finish it myself, but I'm hanging on for a while, hoping that Santa's bringing me a new guitar...(Vintage Advance AV2H).

"all i offer is measured in inches
just to see inside your stinkin' britches"

That is a classic line if ever there was one.

Excellent lyrics the Pogues have not yet recorded..... Will check out the collabs board.

Cheers,

I can hear the squeezebox, the fiddle, and the oarsmen's grunts just reading this. Great wordplay; describing the drudgery and danger of the journey, and the anxiousness for the return. Blunt and course lyrics that fit the mood. Well done.

There are only three kinds of drummers. Those who can count, and those who can't.

Very cool lyrics and yes, I do remember the pirate song - great stuff!!

Bravo. Outstanding lyrics.

the thick ripe smell that she gives
is a welcome scent to me              (too funny)
beats the stink of fifty men
and sixteen weeks at sea               (too true)

It's not just enough to have a great idea but to word in a such interesting and entertaining way.
Bravo.
