Now thats a great blues rock groove there.  The guitars sound really good to me, balanced well.  Great lyrics/vocals, this is a great song.  Nice driving bass line. And really nice harp playing, sounds good all around.  Real drums would really lift this one over the top.

Thanks Satchwood and Bluesberry.  I appreciate the comments about guitars coming from players of your caliber!

Here's a question for anyone - I panned the two guitars pretty hard on this one, and I wonder if I would be better off bringing them a little closer to center. The reason is that I've noticed certain audio systems tend to chop off the left and right.  I think this is why YouTube doesn't sound as good as this site. It also seems to be a big problem when you play a mp3 player (i.e. iPod) through a car stereo via an FM transmitter or cassette adapter. When I play this song in my car, its VERY heavy in the bass drums and vocals - all of which are not panned.  :o

So I'm thinking panning too far can make the song sound like trash to some listeners and it might be better to keep everything between 10L and 10R.  Any thoughts on this?  ???

Hmm that's a good question. I always keep rhythm guitar parts wide, because I struggle with vox all the time - I can't keep the mud out. I don't hear any problems with your panning. It might be because I am in extreme learning mode, but it sounds fine to me. Maybe post to YouTube so we can compare - I want to be educated regarding this issue.

Also, Vanncad is a headroom master - He might be able to helpout. And Blooby, too. I plan to pick their brains at some point.

Peace,

Mark

First rate! This song just rocks! The vocals are so relaxed. Just a great tune.

Well, I did a remix and posted it on YouTube.  I brought the harp out a little, brought up the bass, reprogrammed the drums and changed the kit, and panned the 2 guitars closer to center.  The goal was to optimize the mix for playback on YouTube or on a crummy audio system.

So what do you think?  How does this YouTube mix compare with the original mp3 I posted at the beginning of this thread?

Holy crap, dude!! A-1 on my inexpensive PC speakers - Can't wait to try it out on the car audio. You even got the harmonica to stand out much better.

This sounds like a song somebody would pay for. I love it.

Peace,

Mark

This song really rocks Rick! I love it! The  riff and guitars sound awesome and the playing is tight.
The harp is fantastic too!

It's a winner man!

Geez Mark, thanks for the compliment, but I think I just get lucky sometimes. I just do what sounds good to my ear. I usually pan the guitars at 15 L+R, keep the reverb low on the tracks and add a little delay before mastering.

Damn - I just gave away all my "secrets"  ;D
It ain't pretty being easy.
