Usually I post straight to YouTube, but I wanted to get some pointers from y'all on this one first. Any suggestions?

I tried a couple of new tricks this time. First, the guitar you hear in the left channel was recorded dry after being run through my Tech21 TriAC, then a Boss EQ, then a Marshall reverb pedal. Usually I just use the onboard effects in the BR600, as I did with the guitar in the right channel. The other new trick was the harmonica. I took a tip from Vanncad and used a guitar patch to add a little grunge to the tone. I also used a really cheap mic as was suggested on a harmonica instructional DVD.

I still haven't mastered fine art of drum programming. I might redo this song someday with a real drummer.

And by the way, if you are interested this song was inspired by the last half of 1 Corinthians 9.

Anyway...comments are welcome, and thanks for listening!

Wow - A really "Big Power" tune!!! Sounds excellent. I love the fact that you didn't make it reverb heavy - And there's lot's of punch here as well. Very pro, Rick!

I thought the harmonica got a little lost in the mix, but I'm not sure how you could raise it much more either because you have everything else very well balanced. I'm on cheap PC speakers, though. Will have to try on headphones later.

Awesome!!

Thanks guys. Mark, I agree about the harp getting lost. That started happening when I distorted it, so there's a trade off in there. I might try it again a little cleaner.

Sounds good.  Here's my suggestion:  Don't post on YouTube.  Really bad sound quality there. Post on Soundclick.

Great song!

Don't laugh, but a cowbell in there would be killer.

Rickocaster

More cowbell, I must have more cowbell!  :D You know, I actually thought about adding that. I'm pretty sure I'm going to remix this before I "go public" so I might add that in.

Pretty solid effort. A pretty good song with a very good recording. I enjoyed the guitars and the left/right thing works great. Was that two separate guitar tracks one panned hard right and one hard left? And was the hard right slightly lower in volume? Could you let me in on what you did there? I'd love to know.
Thanks for sharing.

Pigfarmer - Both guitars were panned +20, left and right. To me, the left channel sounds slightly lower, but that may be my hearing in that ear. The right channel is the one with the slide guitar in the chorus, and I used patch P58 for the verses and P49 for the choruses. (I have the BR600 recorder). The left channel is the more chunky rhythm part and I didn't use any of the onboard Boss patches for that one - the tone came from my Tri-AC. Hope that helps.

Wiley - thanks for comment about the vocals - big compliment coming from someone with such a great voice. I'm trying to find the style I can handle, and so far, this southern rock thing feels the most comfortable. I've learned to stay away from ballads. Like Dirty Harry said, "man's gotta know his limitations".   ;)
