Hi everyone. I should start by apologising for not having a chance to listen and comment on others work recently. Life has been very busy making music, spending time with the family and earning a living and i just don't seem to get a chance to listen too much these days.

I probably wouldn't have bothered posting this as i feel a bit "wrong" posting when i don't comment on others work but i know some people enjoy seeing how the girls music is progressing.

Kayla did a couple of Santana songs:
Black Magic Woman, which she actually forgot a few solo bits that we'd rehearsed a little, but it's still a pretty good effort for a 9 year old.

Leave Your Lights On, where just about everything except the intro riff is improvised.

Maddie got up to sing The Climb and does a decent job for a 6yo (she still doesn't seem to have the concentration to play a song all the way through live on the guitar, but she is only 6) Check out Kayla's solo at the end of the vid. It's short but neat.

Maddie's rhythm is getting better and better as you can see in this link of an impromptu family jam when some friends visited. She even has a bit of a go at lead.

Kayla recently got a full sized guitar which she paid for after saving up herself except for about $100 which was her birthday pressie from us. Maddie saved up and bought Kayla's 3/4 sized guitar and little amp. Kayla's new amp is due on Christmas day (also saved up for and paid by her except for $90)

As per usual all the audio is recorded and mastered on the MBR and then laid over the video.

Cheers

Brett

More often than not lately Kayla is looking at me because I've made a mistake or I've got the tempo out a little. When she sang "Stay" that night i started playing and she was clicking her finger saying "Dad, pick it up, too slow!!"  :D Little smart arse.

The wife and i have been talking about getting Kayla some lessons with someone else soon as she's getting beyond my abilities to teach her any more.

We were at the music shop the other day and she went up to a keyboard, tinkled around for a few minutes and then started playing a Christmas song that she learnt on guitar for the school band. Not just single note melody but left hand chord and right hand melody. I was shocked and asked her where she learnt it. She just replied that she got shown the middle c by a friend the other day and then worked it out from there!! She'd only been at it for a few minutes!!

Her school has given her a bass to play over the Christmas holidays so that she can play it in the school band next year as they usually don't have guitar in the band. She didn't initially want to but when she was told it would help her learn to read keyboard music she jumped at it. So now she wants an electric piano AND her own bass. Where will it end??? ???

As you can probably tell i am a very proud dad, and the funny thing is the kids are extremely modest about their talent to the point that they don't realise or acknowledge it. I try to get them to play for family and friends when we have visitors and usually they couldn't be bothered, don't want to show off and would rather play games or watch tv. Pretty much the only way others get to see how the girls are progressing is via these YouTube vids of the club gigs.

Anyway, enough bragging from me. Have a great Christmas everyone and hopefully over the next few days i'll get a chance to listen to some of the fantastic music that get's posted on this site (i'm actually typing this at work  ::) )

Cheers
