Instant Track Muting - Possible?

Hello Everyone!

Forgive me my lamer's question, but is it possible to instantly switch between recorded tracks on the Micro BR to listen to selected tracks only? Let me explain my question using an example:

Suppose I have recorded four tracks. Then, while playing back, I want to 'zap' between these four tracks so that only ONE of them is heard at any given moment. I guess in Cubase it would be something like Mute/Solo function for each track.

Or, as it seems to me after looking into the manual, does the Micro BR only allows that in 'off-line' mode by manually changing Track Level.

In other words, is there any way to mute a track during playback?

Many thanks for your help!

Geir

Hi Wilbury and welcome.

The mbr doesn't have a mute or solo funnction. You can however switch V-track under playback. That mean, say you've recorded on T1V1 T2V1 and T3V1 you could mute either one of these by switching to another V-track, eg T1V2 (if that's empty would mute track T1.

Hope that helps!

Thanks, Geir! This method really has some zen flavour. The sound of an empty track. ;) I'll definitely try it.

You can also just turn the volume of the track(s) in question down to zero. This can be accomplished very quickly by getting the cursor under the volume of the track, press and hold the minus button then press and hold the plus button at the same time.

As a point of interest, the BR-600, BR-864, BR-900, BR-8, BR-1180, BR-1200, and BR-1600 all have a dedicated MUTE button. You simply hold down the MUTE button while pressing the TRACK button of the track you wish to mute. Do the same again to un-mute the track. Unfortunately, the Micro BR and BR-532 do not have a MUTE button.

Thanks guys, this does answer my question. Anyway, the Micro BR seems perfectly fit for what it's been designed - mobile recording rather than desktop mastering. The latter implies having an elder brother from the BR line. I'd definitely get myself a BR-600 if it could handle larger memory cards. I think there must soon be a more modern successor to this model.
