Inspired by the discussion about pinched harmonics:
https://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?topic=5302.0

I realized I had been doing pinched harmonics for a long time, but I hardly ever SHRED, let alone record a long solo. So I made a little JJ Cale-like backing track, very simple, and attempted a continuous solo over it. trying to get a couple of harmonics in there to keep it interesting:

It sounds like a swampy version of "Higher Ground."  I could see the late blues guy John Campbell singing on this.  He had a scary f'ing voice that would suit this groove.

Good stuff.

I can't believe I started a thread that led to this! Overall this is a damn good song. That lead was superb SdC. I thought I was getting some good pinched harmonics, until I listened to this!

Great job SdC, this has a great groove and some really nice pinch harmonics. Good stuff indeed!

Hey thanks guys! I've never before recorded anything like this...
Apart from badly balanced mix (my right ear was clogged with goo last weekend, and now it's open again I hear way too much Hi/Lo EQ) I'm learning a lot about the way I play solo. Too many notes, too little empty space, the phrases are too close together. Too little variety; I forgot to go up/down the neck. The style I'm looking to achieve is a bit Robbie Robertson like; melodic, introvert and restrained.
The groove itself for me is very easy to achieve, is comes naturally. I can play groovy chops 24/7. I've got loads of these half-baked backing tracks lying around; if anyone is interested I'll post some in collabs (but so far I haven't received response on tracks I posted there)

Hey thats a great groove, really moves along.  I haven't heard you playing such dirty blues before, its flipping fantastic tone here.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

Thanks BB! I' sure there  are more blues tracks in my future; really enjoyed doing this.

BTW; just realized that for pinced harmonics, I chose the wrong key for this; F#. Made it really difficult for myself; E or A works much better.

I'm sorry I have missed your kind offer  :-[
I have trawled thro Collabs and can't find anything :o
Anyway I am always lookin out for new backers ( I use em in my blues lessons too)
so please fire some my way Please ;)
my email is mmacforte@googlemail.com

Now back to the song I love the tone and the pinched harmonics are great
I think this is just great...we all still have lots to learn that's what makes it fun
Havin said that this is very good nasty playing ;)
BTW is it a MBR patch?

SdC

Ok 48 I'll make some backer mixes from some of the stuff on my memory cards and post 'em, starting with tis one i guess - 'd be interesting to see what you guys would make of it.

No, first of all I don't have an MBR but a 600; and I found the most productive way for me to record is to use my Boss GT-8 and Roland GR-33 in tandem. Those machines allow me to dial in just about any tone I could possibly need and the sound quality is just much better then the BR's FX, which I disable. I recorded all tracks without putting down my Strat. Bass is GR-33 preset "Fingered bass", organ is preset "Pdl/Hammond". Backing gtr is GT-8 preset "Tweed crunch", I forgot what I used for lead.
