It's Hockey Time - Sandy Gritt

Gritter

Just over a year ago there was a national contest in Canada to come up with a new theme song for "Hockey Night In Canada" - our beloved live weekly national broadcast of NHL hockey Saturday nights on the CBC. They received thousands of entries...the winner's song was good but the "judges" played it safe. All 5 finalists were high energy instrumentals. There were a lot of great entries that were folkier songs that expressed our emotional attachment to our favorite pastime.

Here is my attempt, recorded in a voice-over studio in the building where I work.

Instruments are:

acoustic and electric guitars, cajon and my daughter's toy keyboard.

Thanks for listening.

That was fun and thank you for introducing me to the cahon/cajon.

A strong entry right there. I felt like I was at a UMaine game for a minute - Back when we weren't getting our asses kicked by UNH (I live in New Hampshire now!).

I'm surprised the judges didn't go with a song with vocals. Doesn't make sense.

Anyway - Pro job!!

I remember that contest Gritter!

This would have been cool entry. I could see Don Cherry jamming to this one with a cold Labbat's in his hand.

PS - Us damn Canucks are always "playing it safe" eh?.
It ain't pretty being easy.

It should have won, then I could have heard this every Saturday night.
