External mic not working

Started by selujceline, November 24, 2009, 11:10:06 AM

Hi guys,
I've been using the internal mic which is great but wanted to hear what the vocals would sound like with an external mic. I have a Sony hand held that I tried to plug in and use but it doesn't seem to be working - any suggestions where I may be going wrong? ???

Thanks for your help

Hi S,   When mine did not work I hadnt pressed input then press EXT, is your mic plugged into line in?     Alex

Have you turned the plugin-power on? If not

Press [UTILITY].

Use CURSOR [ ][ ] to access the
PlugInPower screen.

Use VALUE
  • to turn value ON.
If you want to turn value OFF, press [-].

If the Sony handheld is a condenser mic then it might need more power than the MBR will give.  What type of mic is it?

Sprocket

You have to hit the Select button and then scroll to the right till you find the Plug In Power, turn that on.

Also, I dont know what you are recording BUT I use the LINE as opposed to EXTernal option...EXTernal is much louder and when recording a band or live performance youll end up having to turn the sensitivity down way too far....when using LINE is comes out just right and I never see the OVER light light up.

Does anybody else have issue using the external mic? I find, on occassion, that if you go through the sequence of selecting the plug in power first and then selecting your input differently that the recording just doesnt work. OR if you adjust the sensitivity(witht he buttons) while recording it doesnt work either? This can be frustrating when you think you are recording something only later to discover there is nothing there....just make sure you see the meter bouncing, otherwise...
