Is there a description of the vocal effects?

The vocal effects are subtle and it is difficult for a newbie to know what they all mean. I discovered from a thread that ForNylon means for nylon stringed acoustic guitars.
Can anyone tell me what each of the vocal effects does? eg. compression, delay, eq. etc. or alternatively, which is useful for rock, which for pop, which for quiet acoustic etc.

The descriptors that they give for these things are often quite inspired, i.e., they don't make a lot of sense.  Like most things, you are better off just trusting your ears, and remember that even when you have an effect that you like you can still edit it.  You also have the other (guitar and line patches) that you can apply so you have 70 editable patches in all.  That's a lot of shonky descriptions.  Ears are the go for my money.

Having said that, you can learn a lot about signal processing and the like at places like this

and that might help you understand what your ears are listening to.  Good luck.

I would also suggest that you record the vocals dry. (fx 'off') and experiment with the different effects to see which one you like. (you can do that by changing the 'LOC'ation of the fx when bouncing from normal to 'Track x' .... the track your vox is on.

I don't pay any attention to the patch descriptions. As far as I'm concerned, they're just labels that you can use to remember different ones (and eventually, your favourites) by. Just pick them by ear and for what sounds right in that particular song.

That is exactly as I see it, Tim. Sometimes I will start with clean and then experiment. It can really help when learning all the available features of an effects algorithm. I also flip through the presets until I find a setting that is close - Often not even having to change it. My only beef has to do with the presets where it is obvious you turn off/down the delay - I hate that.

Section 3 is your friend in the MicroBR manual.

That's easily fixed. By default, the User bank contains copies of all of the patches in the Preset bank. So just go through each patch in the User bank and turn off the delay then write the patch back to the same location in the User bank. From then on, select your desired patches from the User bank instead of the Preset bank. You'll get the same preset patch settings, but without the delay. And, of course, you can still go into the settings and turn the delay on if you want to. But having the delay off to start with for all patches probably makes more sense.

That is a great idea, 64 - I have been timid to modify anything but a song patch because they run with the song, and I will always have them the way I set them, even after a complete MBR factory default initialization.

But now that I think of it, I can just copy the User patch to the Song patch when I need to because there are some I use all the time with the same settings.

Thanks, 64!
