Staggered by the quality of the recordings, bloody fantastic all round. How d'you get them vocals sounding so good? Do you use an external mic? Or is it a patch you've written? Whatever, I'm stunned....                                                                        henwrench                                             www.soundclick.com/henwrench

Everything is recorded on the MBR, and all the patches used are as standard (have never used an external mic). The only things I change are volume, panning and reverb. I'm not good at the technical stuff, so I just do what sounds right.

The MBR is capable of incredible quality. It's like having Abbey Road in your pocket (though no George Martin on the mixing desk, lol).

No way... I'm still on a very functional level with the bass. I'm just trying to save your fingers a bit, 'cause you can't keep up with 5 or 6 new songs a week (plus Jemima's Kite!)! Can you?!

The drums take a fair bit of time, but for me, they are essential to get right, so the investment is very worthwhile.

I start with the same pattern all the way through as a click track. I then go back and change it, step by step, when all the music is recorded (usually before the vocals are added).

I've learned to 'audition' all sorts of different patterns in every song, until it just sounds right. A good tip is to not be constrained by the 'intro' and 'end' labels etc, as these can often sound great as the main parts in songs. In fact, I use a lot of the intro rhythms as the main building blocks. The fills, again, are all different. Some work, some don't. It's just trial and error, and lots of practice. Now I can kind of already know what rhythm patches are going to work.

Stick with it - it can really add some professionalism to get it spot on.
