There are a lot of cheap(inexpensive) pa solutions now adays
i played in a band that used a powered yamaha -it sounded good
for a small pa i think i would lean toward using a Mackie-
Peavy's are good too-they been making them forever
Soundcraft another top shelf one

I'll come over and jam with you next time i visit my sister (Powell, Oh)

wha wha what? You have a sister in Powell huh? Really small world! I'll get my pseudo band together for you Ron. I'll run the sound system LOL. For real Ron, I'd love to have you over for a couple hour jam, if you can sneak out!

A deal happened to fall in my lap. The system I got is quite a bit bigger than I needed, but the price is right. 450watt mids, 100 watt highs and I can buy the lows also 450 watts. Each speaker cost me $100

All Peavy

The guy threw in 2 amps. Cabling cost me the most. I bought a this for a mixer

And this for a crossover

Cabling costs soared....

Wednesday 11 November - "I'm basically wanting to put together a sound system as inexpensively as possible with adequate wattage. I have no idea where to begin."

Saturday 14 November - "The system I got is quite a bit bigger than I needed..."

Way to go Tony - no procrastination your end !

Now you just need some pics.

LOL, I am blown away by the deal I was fortunate enough to land. If I decide to.... I could resell this system for about $500 (US) profit. I think its a fairly solid investment... and expandable......hmmmmm........

Plug it in, crank it up, get your stuff playing to the coyotes. Nicely done. A kilowatt is a nice round figure.

It can get interesting around here being it's Ohio State week ( i know we're gonna get killed-AGAIN)

sometimes the best deals just come to you-are those speakers self powered-if so i would think the crossover might not be necessary.

The speakers are passive, with a passive crossover, but I can't seem to find a schematic anywhere. I am going to take the crossover off, and see if I can find an identifier on it somewhere that will help, Or else I'm going to draw the schematics by hand. Realistically it can't be much more than a band pass/band reject filter.

**EDIT**
After tons of reading, I found my problem. Turns out it wasn't a problem at all. I have a biamp input on the horns, which is a high band pass filter. The lows are simply shunted and the (low) output is disabled via switch. The system sounds good for now, but If I want to do it right, I'll be needing 2 more amps (for stereo) or 1 more amp Mono) and a crossover. Regardless the amp(s) will have to be dual channel amps.

I wish Pryor would have went to Michigan with Rich Rodriguez. He is one of the poorest decision makes I've seen in years. He is getting out played by every quarterback he sees........ minus his ability to run.

Nice thing is that if you have a stereo set, you can turn it mono, bridge the amps and get four times the power into your speakers. You will need a bridging module of some sort though.

Bi amps are good too. It's easier to do the crossover stuff at the low power side of things, you don't dump too much power into your crossover's ineffciencies and save it all for your speakers, which is where you want it after all.

If you have a set of sub amps, you can forget about stereo down there, there's very little stereo imagery in the bass, so just give it whumph. One speaker would do too, much like a sub in a home entertainment system.
