Glenn I have a few
dont know what the numbers mean
Do you want a major or minor chord progression
what sort of vibe /tempo?

Glenn Mitchell

Thanks 48.
My wife is taking piano and just discovering the blues scale.
Her teacher suggests improvising in C with a very basic 12 bar sequence in a major key.
The numbers refer to the name of the chord in the scale.
Usually they are referred to in Roman numerals but I used regular numbers.

For those not familiar with the system:
EG if in the KEY of C, the notes of major scale are of course C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C
So the 3 most common CHORDS (in a blues sequence and most pop and country) are referred to as
1 = C,
4 = F, and
5 = G7

It's an old jazz system and is great because it's good for any key.
Playing with others on a song with a non standard chord pattern you can just yell "4" and they won't think you are golfing.
Often a set of lyrics will just have the numbers over the word to reference the chord.
Then they add "m" or "-" for minor, "M" or "M7" for Major 7 to the numbers
So if it calls up IIm, V, I  (or 2m, 5, 1) in C would be D minor, G and C
but in G it would be A minor D and G
