"Badge" by Cream

Finally got to this, had to download it because the link didn't work for some reason. Was a little wary because Badge is my favourite Cream song ever and the "drunken" title implied it might be a bit rough. Well, I needed to have no fear, it's a pretty shit hot rendition with a great free form section in the middle. It's a little ragged on the vocal reprise, but apart from that it actually sounds like a well rehearsed piece, not a jam! The guitar playing rocks, I couldn't ever do anything like that just as a jam. Great fun, really enjoyed it. The bass is great btw, a little boomy in places but definitely not too dominant.

Cheers,

Nigel

Thanks O and Ferryman.

Nigel, just to clarify, we have played this a handful of times previously. I posted this version because of that free-form jam in the middle, but I didn't mean to imply that the whole thing came out of a jam (although that's sort of what happened in the "Jam  --> Do you feel like we do?" post. We've done a couple safe versions, but this is a song that begs to be opened up a bit. We have yet to do a solid version, though.

Thanks for your feedback on the bass. Your word is golden on that subject as far as I'm concerned.

Just one of my most fav songs, Jack Bruce came from not far from here, love this take on a classic, only thing I would change and I,m not in your class as a musican is the guitar I would have it a bit more gangly if you know what I mean, but anway an excellent take on an all time classic.

Holy Moly this is is sh*t hot man.  I have heard many covers of this before, but holy crap, you guys got inside this one.  Great, great job here.  I love that heavy bass, it is not overpowering, but it is heavy, just like it is supposed to be for Cream.  And what a great singer that guy is, he is powerful and right on the note every time.  Nice keyboard work, I always wished Cream got S.Winwood to join them, hammond organ really suits the Cream vibe.  Now, lets talk about the guitar.  Well damn, what can I say, I love it . I love it, I love it (did I mention that I love that guitar work here).  This is pro all the way.  You guys are good enough to be playing out in clubs for sure.  Wonderful stuff.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

My favourite Cream tune too, and thus I've been saving this for a time where I could really enjoy it. And it was worth the wait!!

The performance is great as always, and I just love that long mid-section.

Listening on speakers, sounds really good, on closed cans the bass IS a tad overwhelming in the low low end, ..... could be my sensitive ears tho'.

Thanks, se, BB, and Geir.

Vaancaad inspired me to pick up a BBE Green Screamer, so our next take will be a bit more "gangly" as you say.

I'm happy that some of you commented on the rough-around-the-edges jam. I'm trying to convince some of the members that on appropriate songs, an extended jam might be where some magic can happen. We're all not on the same page, though. Poo.

Thanks again for your comments.

Heh-heh... I love this. My favourite Cream track nailed very, very nicely. It's got a few rough edges, but that just makes it more human. And I could listen to your guitar genius all day.

Bloody great stuff. Again.

great tune Blooby. I'm amazed at the quality of recording that you get in a live scenario. I'm going to give it a shot tonight at a friends house. we'll see what happens.
