Steve G directed me to Adobe Audition for mastering finished MP3s I really enjoyed using its preset mastering patterns
It has now expired and costs £399.....
Anybody know of any good cheap or free mastering software? ;)

I didn't try it too much, but you could check out Kristal
(http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/)

Or you could FL Studio (ex-fruity loops) a try!  8)

Don't know if anyone's done this, but as there's a lot of Audacity users here, maybe someone has any experience using that. I guess if you break down the mastering presets on the br (compression/eq/limiter ....) you could make something similar with Audacity. Maybe there's even a mastering plugin ? ...

I have heard good things about reaper. And it's cheap. Free for a while then like 60 bucks U.S. - Anyone know about it?

I prefer Reaper over Audacity. Yes it does now cost, and the single fee for non commercial use is $50. I didn't like Audacity because whenever I loaded up with more than 6 tracks and added effects it always locked up or crashed.

I have since been using reaper and it's never given me a problem. The only limitation is your CPU speed and amount of RAM. The current song I am working on has a total of 27 tracks so far all running with real time VST plugins. As far as I'm concerned Reaper is the best option out there for the price, and it's free to download and try and will continue to work without limitation even if you don't pay....
