Very excited about impending arrival of BR! What are the usual n00b traumas?

Hi all.......

Just to introduce myself........I came across this wonderful sounding gizmo quite by chance via some of my friends on the 'Harmony Central' musicians forum and couldn't believe its promise!!

I am a trained professional musician (Viola-Player) who has been lucky enough during the last 30 years to have worked with many genres of music and with some splendid musicians/orchestras and ensembles ranging from Led Zep backing tracks to The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

However...at heart I am a frustrated rock guitarist and my everloving wife bought me my first guitar a couple of years ago.

Suffice to say... I now have 5 guitars (they call it 'GAS') and have done more guitar practise in the last 12 months than the last 20yrs on the viola!! ::)

I have spent a fair amount of time in studios laying down string backings and recording with various ensembles so I am not completely in the dark and would love to be able to layer up a few things on this little Boss.......how great will I find the learning curve I wonder?...any hints or n00b type pitfalls I am likely to encounter that you can warn me of in advance?

Also.....

I would like to be able to use Boss BR as a high(ish) quality field recorder......eg...to record my Baroque Band in concert and/or rehearsal and already have a bottom-dollar 'T.Bone ST40' stereo 'mic.

Will this do for starters?......What would you recommend??

SORRY ABOUT OVERLONG 1ST POST!....hope I haven't come across as a complete twit!

All others likely to be shorter and contain single words like 'Help....' ;)

Electret type mics need a power supply-not to be confused with phantom powered mics
There's a power supply for it-correct?
It will not be needed with the MBR

best way too learn is just dive in, the great thing about the mbr is the undo redo facility so if you xxxx up hit undo.

Ron,

Welcome. If you're planning on layering, you'll need to learn to bounce. The Micro can do five instruments normally, four plus the built-in drums. When you bounce once, you can mix the four instruments down to stereo and then have two available tracks for other instruments. One simple bounce will give you seven instruments, six plus drums. And you'll still get a nice stereo mix.

Enjoy,

Kevin

If you are using the Rhythm feature, keep an eye on the tempo of your work. Unless you are working in the Rhythm Arrangement mode, the unit defaults to the factory-programmed tempo regularly.
