Yep. Although, North Americans might be more familiar with the version by The Shadows of Knight which reached #10 on the Billboard charts in 1966. The original by Them didn't make the Billboard Top 40.

QuoteA certain Van Morrison was the singer.....

And the songwriter.

Really? I guess it's been covered by many bands but I didn't know that The Yardbirds had ever recorded it. I can't find it in any of their discographies online. Do you have a proper commercial recording (vinyl/CD/tape) or is it an MP3 you downloaded? If it's an MP3, perhaps it's incorrectly labeled (as they often are).

Here's the original by Them. Could this be what you have?

The one I have could have been them, it came off a CD collection Rock'n Roll of the 50's & 60's.   This one sounds like the original.  I don't have the cd so can't look it up. The second one, I don't remember if I downloaded it or not. If I downloaded it I got it from Amazon during the pepsi promotions.  But it definitely says the Yardbirds. Reunion Jam Vol II.  It is  a live performance and very good.

Did some vox on Nigels "Hellbound"

It's a dark story ..... but hey .. it's for Halloween .. right?

it's plenty of room for guitars and other instruments !!!

here's the lyrics ....

Hellbound

In the middle of oblivion
feel the weight of the lonely heart
In the midst of desperation
see the end of that faulty start

The folks around her
with loud voices
lifting glasses
and slamming doors
the clowns in circles
making noises
skipping classes
avoiding chores

and when the moon is rising
and every street is dead
the street-lights fading
the mist invading
every corner and every door

the moon is full
but I'm still hungry
the moon is full

Behind walls of scornful laughter
on the ground wet and cold
the skin removed
the nerves electric
the mind evades
the thorny path

her father calls
from the grave
"can you help me
I am in hell"
sleep is futile
she's  a slave
to her dreams
can't break the spell

can't solve the puzzle
there's no answer
"What's your poison?"
