Thanks Blooby...the piano and the banjo were apleasant surprise for me as well. Wish i could play either or both alot better!
Your feedback was greatly appreciated. What you don't like is as important to me as what you do. Never hesitate to do that my friend. It helps me think and grow.

BMBR...thanks for stopping and getting into the song. Yes, that's me on the native american flute. It's cedar and i used it on my White Buffalo song as well (re: Using live mics thread) I just love them and plan to use them alot more on my next album. If you are thinking of buying one, check out WWW.HIGHSPIRITS.COM  Odell Borg makes some beauties.

Hi T...yeah they were a  l o n g  way from home but were fearless and as Geir said...not as ruthless as portrayed.

Fenderbender...Yes, the ocean is mystical...and to me so is the song of the Thrush...both haunting , mysterious, and eternal. Wish i could have posted the visual for this i use on my SC page but i'm too dumb to figure that out at the moment (i see no BROWSE  button???)

Thank you 64 Guitars!
Don't know about the Irish saint.

Thanks again guys for bearing with me here...

Beautiful, touching, Poignant, ------ not long enough.

Couldn't agree with you more about Colombus, or any other so called 'civilised' explorer/conquerer ( or what ever you want to call them). Pizarro was even worse!!!

But then again, go right back to Roman/Macedonian times, it was no different. Basically, one race thinking they were better than another ( and wanting the land/ money/power  and stuff, of course).
The Inuit had almost no crime or drunkeness before 'civilisation' intruded, the same as a lot of the Pacific Island groups.
Captain Cook's got a lot answer for too!!!
Is it so much different today?

Yep, the Vikings were brutal-----but no more so than anybody else at the time. They had a fantastic culture, and incredible metal work skills, a lot of their gold and silver work is just bloody amazing.
They tended to get a bad press because it was almost only the monks who could read and write, they wrote just about all the chronicles about the raids and, and how cruel the raiders were and stuff. Somewhat biased though, 1--because the raiders were Pagans, 2---quite often it was the churches that were raided ( they had an awful lot of the wealth at the time---makes sense to me!!)
And NO, they did NOT wear helmets with big horns sticking out the top!!!!!!!

I think it was Brendan, an Irish monk, in the 500's ( 6th century).
It was proved by Tim Severin, in 1976, that a sea-going Currach could reach the Americas. He built one and re-created the voyage.

Errr--- right----sorry----going on a bit there, I'll stop now :-[

I always say, if I can leave somebody happy and smiling at the end of the day-----I've completely f*cked up!!

Great song!

When I was younger, I would have had a hard time discussing this subject. My father is full-blooded Apache, and his parents grew up on the reservation in El Paso, TX.

I was taught at a young age to not trust white people.

As I got older, I realized that no one alive today was responsible for anything that happened back then. And I was able to let it not effect me. But I still have family that still very harshly about anyone not Native American.

As for the actual holiday...

I think Denis Leary said it best... When we were kids, Columbus Day would come and we'd put up signs and banners and decorations at school. Nowadays, everyone pretty much thinks Columbus was an asshole.

Other than the banks being closed, and the occasion retail store advertisement for a Columbus Day sale, I'd never remember about this "so called" holiday.  At least that's the way it is here is Southern California.

Hi Saijinn....Thanks for listening and for your heartfelt reply. Your father and his parents have probably felt the cut of this "holiday celebration" more than you and i, for as time passes, as you say, it appears the true story of colombus is being told. I still feel that the holiday needs to be changed to a celebration for explorers in general and not honor a man who contributed so little to the betterment of mankind. Your story is a very interesting one. I am a wee bit Seneca and have enjoyed reading and learning about our Native peoples since i was a kid...and i'm closing in on 60.
The Apache were a very proud people. I have visited their homelands when i lived in Tucson. Rugged territory...but so beautiful.

Cool stuff Pinedog !!! - luv the native american flute in here against the background ocean/thunder/sea gulls - very contemplating meditative sounds !!!

On a positive note, I think you could turn this into a very cool native american meditation!

Thanks Satch...glad you enjoyed it. Ironically, i am just now starting on a new flute piece that will indeed fall into that realm. I have never tried a flute duet before...should be fun!
